While temperatures across Florida are dropping, the political climate with Gov. DeSantis and Senate Leadership is heating up to unprecedented levels. The time for action is now.
We have not even passed the first month of 2025, and RINOS in Tallahassee are already looking like they will betray us. While the liberal media is focused on leaders of the Florida legislature working against Governor DeSantis’ anti-illegal immigration policies, gun owners feel DeSantis’ pain too. Here is what we, as gun owners, should look for heading into 2025.
Once claiming to fight for all of our God-given Constitutional rights, RINOs in leadership are challenging Governor DeSantis’s push for Open Carry and now are fighting against a special session. Senate President Ben Albritton and House Speaker Daniel Perez in a joint statement called this “premature” and “completely irresponsible.”
If fighting for liberty has taught me anything, it is that leadership is almost an obstacle. Even with November’s massive landslide election results, they will resist the people’s will.
When we fought two years ago for Constitutional Carry, leadership didn’t lift a finger to strengthen the bill and instead gutted any language to legalize Open Carry.
Floridians can still face up to 60 days in jail and a $600 fine for simply exercising their Second Amendment rights.
The Open Carry ban puts Florida on the same playing field as California, Illinois, New York, Connecticut, and Washington, D.C.
It is unacceptable!
Despite Governor Ron DeSantis promising he would sign Open Carry when it reaches his desk, Republicans in leadership like Senate President Albritton and Senator Passidomo are stonewalling even a committee hearing. As we all know, Florida has made significant strides electorally, becoming a beacon for conservatives nationwide.
Our legislative leadership in both houses have had to be carried across the finish line by the grassroots who live and die by these conservative principles.
It was not a Senator in a backroom in Tallahassee talking to lobbyists who turned Florida into a deep red state over the past five to six years. It was the grassroots and everyday Floridians fighting for their liberty.
This is a testament to the power of the people. Our previous grassroots pressure helped pass Constitutional Carry in 2023 by overcoming leadership’s obstacles. They fed us excuse after excuse, and we just kept pushing forward. One of the best lessons I have learned in my years of activism is, “If you listen to the politician, how will it benefit them if you believe them ?”
It didn’t happen overnight, it took a couple of years for RINOS in the legislature to run out of excuses, but DeSantis put them on the spot and they finally passed Constitutional Carry in the end. The lesson? Never let politicians off the hook. Ensure that their office knows you by name and that you watch how they carry out last November’s mandate.
Gun Owners in this State have proved time and time again to the political class we are paying attention to their actions – or more importantly, inactions. This legislative session will be no different. Let’s stand together as grassroots patriots, united in our cause.
I urge all gun owners to join forces and add their voice in compelling leadership to support the legalization of Open Carry. Together, we can make a difference, but only if we employ the resolute tactics that have restored gun rights before. Let’s hold our leaders accountable, repeal Florida’s Red Flag Gun Confiscation law, and legalize Open Carry.
