Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is taking action to defend the Second Amendment, and it is exposing just how badly Florida’s political establishment has failed gun owners.
In a recent video posted on X, Uthmeier announced his office is suing the City of Jacksonville for maintaining an illegal gun registry in direct violation of Florida law. According to the Attorney General, Jacksonville officials knowingly recorded the names, ID information, and firearm details of lawful concealed-carry permit holders entering city buildings.

Uthmeier’s lawsuit is exactly the kind of aggressive pro-gun leadership Floridians have been demanding for years. While anti-gun local governments try to chip away at constitutional freedoms, the Attorney General is fighting back in court and publicly declaring that “the Second Amendment is not a second-class right.”
That’s welcome news.
But it also highlights a frustrating reality. While Florida’s executive branch is beginning to push back against gun control and Governor Ron DeSantis has repeatedly called for repeals to be sent to his desk, the Florida Legislature still refuses to repeal some of the worst anti-gun laws passed under former Governor Rick Scott after Parkland.
To this day, Florida still enforces “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation orders that allow firearms to be seized without due process and before a person is convicted of a crime. Florida still bans Forced Reset Triggers and bump stocks, and law-abiding adults are still forced to wait to exercise a constitutional right because of mandatory waiting periods on firearm purchases.
Even worse, Republican lawmakers campaign as pro-gun every election season while refusing to fully restore Second Amendment freedoms once they return to Tallahassee.
The executive branch is taking action. Now, Florida lawmakers need to do their job.
Florida gun owners shouldn’t have to settle for gun control that looks more like a blue state while politicians brag about being “pro-Second Amendment.” If state leaders truly believe the Second Amendment is not a second-class right, then they must act like it by repealing every remaining shred of anti-gun legislation still on the books.
The fight for gun rights in Florida is far from over, and grassroots gun owners are watching.
