Florida Gun Rights Delivers 140,000 Petitions to Repeal “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation

“Red Flag” Repeal Petition Delivery

Florida Gun Rights staff delivered 140,000 of your petitions to repeal “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation directly to key lawmakers in Tallahassee this week. This massive show of force from pro-gun Floridians came at a critical moment, demanding immediate action to repeal “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation (HB 6029).

The timing could not have been better with House Bill 6029 stalled in the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee. Republicans in the House need to hear loud and clear from gun owners: we are done waiting for our rights to be restored.

Florida Gun Rights has been pushing for over a month to advance this repeal, facing silence from some and even canceled meetings aimed at moving this critical legislation.

The delivery of these petitions marks a turning point, with Capitol insiders reporting that two key figures — House Speaker Daniel Perez and House Judiciary Chairman Chuck Brannan — are holding up progress on HB 6029.

Some House lawmakers are already offering excuses, attempting to shift blame to the Senate for not advancing the repeal of the Military Aged Purchase Ban (HB 133), which passed the House earlier in the session. This classic deflection is a clear sign that sustained pressure from gun owners is hitting the mark and having the desired effect.

“Red Flag” Repeal (HB 6029) Stalled in the House

The apparent stonewalling of HB 6029 is unacceptable.

“Red Flag” laws have no place in Florida, as they enable the seizure of firearms from law-abiding citizens based on accusations and without due process. These laws violate not just the Second Amendment, but the Fourth and Fourteenth as well.

More than 10,000 gun owners in Florida have had their Second Amendment rights stripped by Florida’s “Red Flag” Law.

Which is why Florida Gun Rights is fighting hard to break through the resistance and move HB 6029 forward.

Gun owners’ petitions had a strong impact on lawmakers, but more action is needed to overcome the delays in the Criminal Justice Subcommittee. Especially with a long history of Republican lawmakers passing gun control and stonewalling pro-gun legislation in Tallahassee.

Chuck Brannan: A History of Resistance

You likely remember Representative Chuck Brannan, now serving as House Judiciary Chairman. For years as a committee chair, Brannan blocked gun owners’ efforts to pass Constitutional Carry — even instructing staff to trash some groups’ petitions supporting the bill.

It took years of relentless pressure from pro-gun patriots to finally force Brannan’s hand. Even then, what emerged was a watered-down version of Constitutional Carry that banned carry for certain age groups and ultimately required court intervention to secure permitless open carry.

History shows Brannan is no reliable ally to gun owners. He will only change course when confronted with sustained demands from Second Amendment supporters like you.

Take Action Today

As demonstrated with Brannan’s actions through the years, gun owners must apply immense pressure to force the “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation Repeal to move.
