Governor DeSantis calls for repealing Red Flag Law

Just the other day, Governor Ron DeSantis came out swinging once again for the fences and repealing horrible gun control from the Parkland bill.

Red Flag Gun Confiscation was implemented after the Parkland shooting in 2018, backed by then Governor Rick Scott. Red Flag laws are some of the most tyrannical and egregious violations of American liberty our nation has ever seen. They do not only violate our Second Amendment Rights, it violate large swaths of our Bill of Rights. It is excellent to hear Governor DeSantis come out in support of repealing this law, but let me explain why this is such a horrendous encroachment on our rights and upends American law as we know it.

As Americans, we are innocent until proven guilty. That principle is the very bedrock of our judicial system. Red Flag laws destroy that principle. All it takes is a complaint to the local sheriff that someone could be a danger to themselves or others, and police will come to your door armed to the gills and confiscate your legally-owned firearms.

Does there have to be any evidence to prove you are a threat or danger? No, the burden of proof is upon you to prove you are innocent, not on the state to prove you are guilty. Who can make this claim against you? It can be anyone: an angry coworker, a former lover, or even a disgruntled neighbor who is upset with your pro-gun bumper stickers.

This is incredibly dangerous and, in some cases, deadly. This law puts citizens and law enforcement in harm’s way. Law enforcement is sent to a home many times early in the morning or the dark of night to take arms away from people they know to be possibly dangerous with guns. This plays out on average 5 times every day across Florida.

This has led to deadly shootouts before, and it is entirely unnecessary and unconstitutional. For the sake of citizens and our brave law enforcement officers, this should be repealed, and Florida Gun Rights is happy to see the Governor wanting to write this wrong.
