The other day, when the Florida legislature finally reached a budget agreement, I saw one of the most infuriating tweets I have ever seen. The radical gun control group Giffords tweeted this out:

This complete failure of a Republican supermajority has rabid anti-gun groups praising how pro-second amendment bills all failed this session. This was particularly frustrating, given the numerous petty fights within leadership and their witch hunts against the Governor.
But as gun owners, this session, the betrayal of 2025 is a deep wound that can never be forgiven. The sense of betrayal is profound, and it fuels our determination for change.
It all started when Rep. Monique Miller betrayed gun owners by not filing the Open Carry legislation that was a central part of her campaign. Then the Senate killed the military age purchase ban, because Chairwoman of the Senate Rules Committee Kathleen Passidomo had to be a thorn in the side of gun owners one last time.
Florida prides itself on being the “Free State of Florida.” Newsflash, to the political class in Tallahassee, if Giffords is praising your efforts on killing pro-gun legislation, you have failed, and you should be ashamed of yourself.
It is very rare to have a Governor call for real bills with teeth like repealing “Red Flag” Laws, passing Open Carry, and repealing the Military Age Purchase Ban. These are not just bills; they are crucial steps towards restoring and protecting our Second Amendment rights. Despite the conservative rhetoric coming from Speaker Perez, he had the opportunity to be one of the best speakers in Florida’s history. Instead, he went the way of big corporate lobbyists and betrayed the gun owners who gave him that majority.
Come 2026, all gun owners must remember this embarrassment of a legislative session. The greatest lie in politics is the separation of the legislative season and the election season. If they do not vote in line with what gun owners demand, we will replace these RINOs and red coats with true conservatives who will. Your mobilization is key, and together, we can bring about the change we need.
FLGR’s staff is building out an extensive plan to hold the legislature accountable. With legislative committee meetings starting this fall ahead of next year’s session and the primary season heating up, now is the time to sharpen the axes to be ready for an all-out fight in the coming months. The need for accountability is urgent, and your role in the upcoming elections is crucial.
