Just this week, the incompetent Senate President and his lackeys killed one of the few pro-gun bills that the House passed this year.
Senate President Albritton has been very open about his anti-Second Amendment agenda, along with the most liberal Republican, Kathleean Passidomo. Senator Passidomo fought Governor DeSantis on making Florida an actual constitutional carry state.
The House has passed a repeal of military-aged adults’ ability to purchase rifles, shotguns, and ammunition three times now. The Senate has sat on this bill and killed it every time. This year, the Senate President is using the tragedy of FSU as cover for why he would rather do nothing for the Second Amendment this session.
Truly, with Republicans like this, who needs Democrats? Unfortunately, Republicans in Florida are the most liberal supermajority I have ever seen. They are full of Mitch McConnell types who would rather serve special interests than their actual constituency.
Republicans in Tallahassee would rather be owned by Disney and the big developers than pass laws that keep us on par with every southeastern state around.
Florida prides itself as the “Free State of Florida,” but we are closer to New York with better weather regarding Second Amendment rights.
As Floridians, we have elected a Republican Trifecta; we must demand better from our legislators. The Governor has been very vocal on repealing many of the gun control laws that are truly holding us back. The Republican House and Senate would rather pick petty fights and act like social media influencers than govern as conservatives.
It is up to the grassroots to hold these elected officials accountable. We cannot allow them to campaign as strong conservatives and then go to the Capitol and legislate like Mitch McConnell. If these elected officials refuse to file bills like Open Carry and Repeal of “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation, or won’t even hold a vote to repeal the military age purchase ban, they must be shown the door.
Actual political power rests in the grassroots’ ability to force politicians to vote how we would like or replace them with representatives who will. As this session ends, look at your State Representative or Senator and see how they voted on this issue. Did they vote as a conservative? Or were they Judas?
